Montana Native Plants Nursery

Blackfoot Native Plants is a family operated nursery situated in Montana’s Potomac Valley bordering the Blackfoot River. We sell superior quality plants for use in perennial gardens, native meadows, and restoration settings in USDA Zones 2-5. Our nursery specializes in native plants from Western Montana.

Montana Native Plants

Blackfoot Native Plants Nursery offers over 200 species of native grasses, shrubs, and wildflowers found in the prairies and dry montane forests of the Rocky Mountain West. Our plants thrive at high altitudes with short growing seasons where summer drought, cool nights, and extreme winter temperatures are common. As landscaping with naturalized, low maintenance, water-wise plants becomes increasingly popular, native plants are the “natural” choice.

How We Raise Our Native Plants

Our plants are grown from seeds we collect or propagated from cuttings of local plants. Most of our plants spend at least one winter out-of-doors in containers and are extremely hardy.

We do not dig plants from the wild since doing so not only depletes natural stands of plants but also opens disturbed soils to weeds.

Purchasing Our Montana Native Plants

Please refer to our Plant List for a list of the native plants currently in stock. Contact Us for the most up-to-date inventory and to inquire about delivery or shipping. Our plants are available at the Missoula Farmer’s Market Saturdays May-July at competitive prices. Call ahead if you would like us to bring a specific species to market.
